How Many Thread Colors Can I Put on a Patch?

February 16th, 2012

Color is one of the many things that make a custom patch stand out.  That’s why it’s important to select thread colors that complement your design and make it outstanding to look at and wear.  We decided to address this topic in our blog today because color is something that should never be overlooked when designing custom patches with Patches R Us.

We offer up to seven thread colors at no extra charge on any design.  Any other thread colors after seven is $ 0.10 per color.  There is no limit to the colors you can have on a patch.  It all depends on the design and the amount of room that the machine has to stitch.  What this means is this.  You have creative license over your custom patches.  They can be as bold and as beautiful as you want to make them.

Depending on the size, shape, and style of patch that you choose, you can do a lot with color.  You can use it to accentuate different areas of the design.  You also can use it to recreate emblems, mascots, and logos.  This is a great option for businesses, organizations, and sports teams because it allows the image to be reproduced in a way that is accurate and visually appealing.

In addition to using color on your custom patches, did you know that you also can choose the style of backing that they have?  That’s right!  You can even choose no backing at all!  You can sew, iron-on or use Velcro to attach your custom patches to articles of clothing or hats.  Easy-to-apply and long lasting, there are few products that make as bold of statement as custom embroidered patches.

What are the Advantages of Using a Velcro Type of Backing on Patches?

January 23rd, 2012

When creating custom patches for your employee uniforms, a lot of questions come to mind.  One of the most important answers you will want to receive has to do with the benefits of Velcro backings.  We’re here to let you know that there are plenty of reasons why you would to use Velcro to attach your custom patches to your employee’s shirts and jackets.

Here are a few things you’ll want to consider when choosing a backing option for your patches:

  • Velcro backings allow you to remove the patch for laundry.  This is especially important if you have a large number of employee uniforms that get laundered each week.
  • Velcro backings come with both the hook side and soft side. The Velcro is sewed onto your patch (Hook side) with soft side both cut to shape of your design.
  • Velcro can come in a cut to shape design up to 4.5” in size. Anything larger will have to be in strips and will be quoted from our factory.

What is the Difference Between a 75% Thread Patch and a 100% Thread Patch?

January 17th, 2012

Do you know the difference between a 75% thread patch and a 100% thread patch?  At first glance, you might not be able to distinguish between the two.  After careful examination, however, you will see there is a distinct difference.

Here is how you can differentiate between the different thread counts:

  • At 75% thread there is going to be some area of the patch that will need to have mesh on it.
  • With 100% thread the patch will have 100% Rayon thread throughout the patch and you run your hand across the patch. (No mesh backing will show).

We have over 71 mesh backings colors to choose from. At 75% thread you will be able to keep your cost down and still get a great looking patch!  No matter what your budget may be, we can come up with an eye-catching custom patch perfect for your business, organization, school, military unit or sports team.  This allows you to identify and reward people for a job well done.

What is the Standard Size for Patches and How Would I Measure Them?

January 12th, 2012

Custom patches add style and appeal to apparel and uniforms.  These personalized items are used by businesses, organizations, sports teams, private schools, and clubs as a way of identifying employees, volunteers, vendors, athletes, students, and members.  In addition to being practical, patches are attractive and memorable.  That’s what makes them such a popular staple in institutions around the world.

When it comes to ordering custom patches, a few questions may come to mind.  One of them is, “What is the standard size for patches?”  There is no standard size of patch.  We custom make each and every one of our products so that they can reflect your interests and needs.  There is a formula that you can follow that will help you determine the measurements necessary to make your patches visually appealing and easy-to-apply.

Here is how it works:

  • Patches are measured using the following formula (Height + Width) /
  • Simply add together the height and width of your desired patch, and divide that number by two. The result is your patch size.

The design that you choose to include on your custom patches will help determine how tall and wide they should be.  This also will help you decide what shape they should be.  Patches can be circular, triangular, rectangular, square or cut-to-shape.  For example, if you have an eagle on your patch, it can be cut according to the outline of the image.  This makes the patch interesting and relevant.

Custom patches are used by groups, organizations, athletic teams, security companies, private schools, and businesses of all types.  They help identify and reward.  They can be sewn on, ironed on or Velcroed onto articles of clothing with ease.  Groups like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America have used patches to award specific accomplishments.

What Types of Borders Do You Offer for Custom Patches?

January 6th, 2012

When it comes to custom patches, there are a number of different options you can choose from to help them appear the way you want them to look.  One of the most overlooked features that we offer is custom borders.  Not only are they attractive, they add to the durability of the patches that you order.

Here are the different styles of borders that we offer and the types of patches that they represent:

  • Merrow borders are traditional round sewed borders. Designs that are round use this type of border.
  • Hot Cut border are cut-to-shape border following the design. If your patch is any other shape than round or is badge shaped, a hot cut border is required.

REMEMBER:

Every patch MUST have a Merrow or Hot Cut border because it seals the patch and makes it a finished product.  This helps keep your patches looking exceptional years later and after being washed time and time again.  You can see examples of the different styles of borders offered by visiting Patches R Us at http://www.patchesrus.com/patchoptions.htm/.

We offer a variety of different patches for your everyday needs.  These will differ because not everyone owns a security company or heads a Boy or Girl Scout troop.  You may be in charge of wardrobing employees at a theme park or amusement park and require that your patches be removed from garments before laundering.  If that is the case, a Velcro backing or a Tuxedo clip or Safety Pin clip will be ideal.  This allows the patch to be removed before a shirt is washed and dried.

Check out the different options that we offer by visiting http://www.patchesrus.com.  You can also email your inquiries to info@patchesrus.com or call 1-800-257-9664 toll-free.  As always, our helpful sales representatives will be more than happy to assist you with your request and answer any questions you might have about ordering custom patches for you and your staff.
